Huawai Bay Beach

Huawai Bay, Lanai by To-Hawaii

This south Lanai beach isn’t very big but it is quite secluded, backed by sea cliffs. The salt-and-pepper sand borders numerous tidepool areas along a shelf of lava. The beach is surrounded by sea cliffs, and perched above Huawai Bay is the Challenge at Manele Golf Course that was designed by Jack Nicklaus. Huawai Bay is frequented by fishermen, and not many tourists venture down to the beach.

Great For

Fishing. Swimming and snorkeling are excellent in Huawai Bay though it should only be done when the sea is very calm as ocean conditions and currents may be hazardous.

Highlights

The water in Huawai Bay is usually very blue and crystal clear.

Access

From Lanai City follow Hwy. 440 south for about 5 miles where the highway makes a left turn. Follow Kaupili Road to Manele Road (the first left), which leads to the ocean. A paved trail to a lookout over the beach starts just before the golf course. The beach itself is accessed by a very steep trail called the Poopoo Fisherman Trail.
